This work for voices and orchestra, in 7 movements, is a celebration of the life of Jesus. There are 2 soloists: a baritone (representing Jesus) and a soprano (representing the listener’s soul). The lyrics, by the composer, are based partly on traditional Christmas material, but mostly on the Gospel of Thomas (sayings of Jesus discovered in Egypt in 1945 ) .
